Rev. Dr. Alan T. "Blues" Baker serves as Principal of Strategic Foundations. He advises leaders in corporate, non-profit, and governmental organizations on moral, ethical, and character formation. Alan catalyzes organizations to reach their highest level by establishing an intersection of faith, leadership, and learning throughout their workforce. Dr. Baker authored the seminal and widely read textbook, Foundations of Chaplaincy: A Practical Guide, published by Wm. B. Eerdmans.
Alan is a deeply experienced executive with over 20 years of international leadership in complex organizations. His public service culminated in the Presidential nomination and Senate appointment to Rear Admiral. Dr. Baker is the only graduate of Annapolis ever promoted to this rank as a chaplain. As the 16th Chaplain of the Marine Corps, he provided executive oversight to a global team of several hundred professionals and was awarded a combat distinguishing device for valor while providing ministry care during combat operations.
Rear Admiral Baker’s previous professional experience includes military, corporate, and college chaplaincy. He teaches at Fuller Theological Seminary. Most recently, he was appointed Senior Fellow at the Naval Academy’s Stockdale Center for Ethical Leadership and served as their inaugural Director of Influencer Development.
Alan received a Doctorate from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, a Master from Fuller Theological Seminary, and a Bachelor degree from the Annapolis.
He enjoys playing harmonica thereby earning him the nickname "Blues." Alan and his wife, Marla, live in Maryland and enjoy grandparenting and golf.
